Dear Parent / Carer

I am writing to update you following the continued hot weather and the updated weather warnings announced today.

Firstly, I would like to praise our pupils for how sensibly they responded to the conditions in school today. They have done an excellent job of staying hydrated, making appropriate adjustments to their uniform, and following staff guidance throughout the day. The light breeze has also helped to keep most areas of the school well ventilated, which has supported a generally comfortable environment for learning.

We are continuing to monitor the situation carefully which includes:

• daily weather forecasts
• temperatures within buildings
• conditions around the school site
• any local and national guidance 

In addition, we are adapting our provision in line with national guidance. This includes making adjustments to the PE curriculum in accordance with Department for Education guidance, which you can read here: Hot weather and heatwaves guidance for schools

Our site team are also taking proactive steps to keep buildings as cool as possible by:

• keeping windows open later into the evening where possible
• opening buildings earlier each morning to allow cooler air to circulate

We are very grateful to them for their continued efforts.

What pupils should do next:

• Bring a hat to school to wear when outdoors
• Bring a refillable water bottle if they don’t already have one
• Do not wear a school blazer or jumper
• Stay in the shade or indoors during break and lunchtime

We will keep all these measures under review and will continue to update pupils, and parents and carers as needed throughout the week. Please note that similarly to other adverse weather conditions (such as snow) we may have to adjust our plans responsively. We will always do our best to provide as much notice as possible of any decisions we make.
