I am writing to provide a further update following today’s school closure due to the ongoing extreme heat and red weather warning.

Having reviewed conditions on site today, we have made the decision that the school will remain closed to all pupils on Friday 26th June 2026. The circumstances within the building, and more widely, have not improved sufficiently since the decision was made to close today, and a number of areas of the school continue to experience very high temperatures. 

This is particularly challenging given the specific nature of our school building; much of which is four storeys in height and predominantly glass fronted. While this design has many benefits, it significantly increases heat retention and makes it much more difficult to maintain safe and comfortable temperatures during periods of extreme weather, despite all available mitigations.

In addition, we have taken into account updated national guidance. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has extended the current heat-health alert, with a red alert now in place for the West Midlands until 11:00pm on Friday 26th June 2026. 

As with yesterday’s decision, this has not been taken lightly. Our primary consideration remains the health, safety, and wellbeing of both pupils and staff.

Learning for Pupils

Work will continue to be set via Edulink for pupils to complete at home. We encourage pupils to engage with this where they are able, whilst also recognising the challenges presented by the current conditions.

Support for Families

If you have any safeguarding concerns or require support during this period of closure, please do not hesitate to contact the school via the usual channels. We will ensure that appropriate support is available where needed.

Looking Ahead - Monday 29th June 2026

Taking account of the forecasted temperatures over the weekend and into next week, school will reopen to all pupils on Monday 29th June at the usual time. Monday has much to look forward to. It is Veteran’s Day and we are pleased to inform pupils the ‘Wear Your Colours Day’ due to take place tomorrow will now be on Monday. Therefore, pupils should wear their colours on Monday and be ready to celebrate the day together. There will be attendance spot-prizes and double reward points (RPs) for all pupils who are present and awarded RPs at any point throughout the day.

Finally, although pupils have not been in school today, we would like to extend our very best wishes to all families. We hope that you are managing as well as possible in the current extreme heat, and that you are able to keep safe and well.
