Dear Parent / Carer

I am writing to provide a further update following my previous communications this week regarding the exceptionally hot weather and the most recent forecasts and warnings.

Firstly, I would once again like to commend our pupils for the mature and responsible way in which they have responded to the conditions in school. Thank you also to you, our parents and carers, for your support in making sure pupils were able to continue attending school. As a school community we have lived our value of resilience and we have adapted brilliantly. 

We have continued to assess the situation throughout today and have taken account of the Met Office forecast of 36°C tomorrow. 

When considering this alongside the temperatures currently being experienced within parts of the school building, we have taken the decision to close the school to all pupils on Thursday 25th June due to the adverse weather conditions. 

This has not been an easy decision. However, a number of factors have led to this decision:

• Our priority must be the health, safety, and wellbeing of both pupils and staff
• The forecast indicates even higher temperatures during the school day tomorrow
• Some areas of the school site are becoming increasingly difficult to keep at a safe and comfortable temperature
• Despite all reasonable mitigations, conditions are no longer conducive to effective teaching and learning
• An increasing number of staff have children in schools that are now announcing full or part closure decisions 

Learning for Pupils

Appropriate work will be set for pupils via Edulink for completion at home. We encourage pupils to complete this if they are able to do so. 

Looking Ahead

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will communicate with you again regarding arrangements for Friday as soon as possible.
