Remote Learning

Our priority at Swanshurst is to provide high-quality face-to-face education for all pupils.

Remote education is only considered as a short-term measure and as a last resort where in person attendance is not possible.

The decision to provide remote education is made on an individual basis by school leaders.

When may we use remote education?

Occasionally, students may not be able to attend school in person. This may be on:

• occasions when school leaders decide that it is not possible for school to open safely, or that opening would contradict guidance from local or central government

• occasions when individual pupils, for a limited period of time, are unable to physically attend school but are able to continue learning. For example, pupils with a notifiable infectious illness

Where needed, we will consider providing remote education equivalent in length to the core teaching pupils would receive in school. The method of remote education will be determined taking into account the length of remote education and the nature of the learning taking place.

In these circumstances:

• we aim to ensure that work is from the high quality curriculum that is taught in school.

• if amendments are needed due to SEND needs, this will be considered in the work set and support offered by the school.

• pupils and teachers must use the same safeguarding guidelines as those used in school. Families will know the type and timing of any remote education in order to support them to keep their children safe online. Further information can be found at Safeguarding | Swanshurst.org
